This post is about 47 tips that we learned from wedding TikTok.

If you’re a soon-to-be-bride, you’ve probably already realised how much there is that you need to know about your wedding! There are so many tips and tricks especially on Wedding TikTok so we’ve compiled the 47 best ones here to make things easier for you.

Wedding TikTok Tips When You’re Getting Ready

  1. Use eyelash glue for your necklace

This is a handy trick that you might not have heard of. Use eyelash glue to secure the necklace pendant to the center of the bride’s chest so it doesn’t swing around during the day and look asymmetrical in photos.

Your necklace will stay symmetrical and set against your chest all day with this transparent eyelash glue.

  1. Use chalk to cover marks

Chalk is an easy quick-fix for last-minute marks on the bride’s dress. Just make sure the shade of white matches her dress.

  1. Use foot-numbing spray

Have foot-numbing spray in your bridal suite. This will be a life-saver if the bride is wearing heels all day. Check out our list of items that you must have in the Getting Ready area on the wedding morning.

This spray will be a life-saver on your wedding day!

  1. Steam your wedding dress ahead of time

Make sure there’s a portable steamer in the bridal suite and steam the bride’s dress as soon as it’s hung up. Give it plenty of time to dry off – you don’t want to be hot and damp wearing the dress!

This portable handheld steamer will ensure your dress is wrinkle-free all day.

  1. Remove hairbands from your wrist

Ask bridesmaids to remind you to  take any hairbands that you might habitually wear on your wrist – you don’t want those showing up in wedding photography that you’re spending $1,000s on

  1. Avoid indents on your skin the morning of the wedding

Don’t wear any socks or bras the day of the wedding – you don’t want marks or indents on your skin that’ll show up later in photos. Wear loose, comfy clothes like a satin robe.

  1. Buy a cute hanger

Bring a pretty hanger to hang up the bride’s dress so the detail photos look better. We recommend satin, wood or light-coloured hangers.

This set of white satin hangers are perfect for the bridal party.

Opt for a light wood customised set of hangers for perfect pictures.

  1. Have a Crochet Hook To Do Up Buttons

The bride might have long nails or clammy hands when getting ready so have a crochet hook on hand to help do up buttons quickly. Especially helpful when the bride has a dress with a line of buttons up the back.

This crochet hook could be a total life-saver on your wedding day.

  1. Bridesmaids Get Dressed Before The Bride

Ensure the bridesmaids get dressed before the bride so that they’re ready for her first look.

Hair & Makeup Hacks From Wedding TikTok

  1. The bride should not go first or last with hair and makeup

The bride should not go first or last with hair and makeup on the wedding day. Too early and she’ll cry or sweat through her makeup. Too late and she might be panicking last-minute. We recommend she goes somewhere in the middle.

  1. Wear white to the HMUA trial

Pro tip: wear a white top to your hair and makeup trial so you can get the tones and shades of makeup on point. Even better, wear a similar neckline too so you can see how the hair style will go with your dress.

  1. Do your hair and makeup trial early in the day

Schedule the hair and makeup trial so that you have the rest of the day to test it out. You want a similar amount of time as the duration of your wedding to see how the hair style and makeup holds.

This way you also get your money’s worth out of the trial instead of removing the makeup a few hours later.

  1. Bring realistic inspiration photos for hair and makeup trials

Bring hair inspiration photos of people who seem to have a similar hair type to you. This way you’re more likely to get a similar outcome and not feel disappointed.

Similarly, for makeup inspiration – avoid overly edited or filtered photos. Try to bring photos of other brides in normal lighting who don’t look like supermodels.

Oftentimes people get confused between liking the makeup vs. liking it on a celebrity but just because she’s stunning.

Ceremony Tips

  1. At the beginning of the aisle, pause to look around at everyone

Couples often say they totally blank out during the ceremony as there are so many eyes on them and nerves. Give yourself a moment at the beginning of the aisle to pause and look around at everyone.

  1. Walk as slow as you possibly can down the aisle

Walk slower than you even think you should. It allows you time to soak it all in, allows the photographer time to get the shots, and builds the drama!

It also helps with walking in your long dress, which leads us to…

  1. How to not trip over your gown

If you’re scared you’ll trip over your gown, walk very slowly and on each step kick the dress out softly with your toes. This ensures that it won’t get caught under your shoes.

  1. How to walk with your bouquet

As you’re walking down the aisle, hold your bouquet low, thumb to bellybutton and point it outwards slightly. Even though it might feel unnatural, it’ll look a million times better for photos.

  1. Look up as you walk

Don’t forget keep your chin up and look up as you walk. Don’t let the nerves take over and have you looking down.

  1. Fluff your dress

Ask your maid of honour to fluff your dress when you get to the top of the aisle so that it looks perfect for photos during the ceremony. Same for if you’re wearing a veil!

  1. Hold hands at the altar

Hold hands at the top of the altar during the ceremony – it will calm your nerves, bring you into the present moment and avoid any awkward hands-by-sides looks. It’ll also make for better photos!

  1. Soak It All In

This will probably be the only time in your lives where all of your family and friends from both sides will be in one place – take 10 seconds to look out at the crowd and take it all in.

  1. Kiss 3 times

It’s best to kiss 3 times during the ceremony – once at the top of the altar, once halfway down the aisle, and once at the end of the aisle.

Throw in a dip kiss for at least one of those kisses for a photo-worthy opp! The reason for 3 kisses is so there’s a backup option for the photographer – in case there’s an officiant in the way, the lighting’s off, or there are shadows etc.

And don’t be shy with the kisses, hold them so the photographer can snap the picture.

  1. Ask the officiant to move to the side before prompting the kiss

To avoid any issues with the officiant being in the way of the kiss at the altar, ask them to move to the side before they even announce that you can kiss.

  1. Have tissues nearby

If you’re one to cry easily, make sure the groom or maid of honour has tissues on standby. The maid of honour can carry them in her bouquet if needed.

  1. Grab the bouquet before exiting the ceremony

Don’t forget to have your maid of honour pass you back your bouquet before you walk back down the aisle. You’ve likely spent a pretty penny on that bouquet and having them with you makes for beautiful “I just got married” photos.

If Wedding TikTok has taught us anything, it’s that all too many brides forget this key step!

  1. Seat each wedding party on opposite sides

Ask your wedding party to sit on opposite sides so they can see your reaction during the ceremony i.e. your family has front row seats to your face.

Even better, ask for an arched seating arrangement so everyone can get a good view.

Wedding Dinner Tips & Tricks

  1. The best wedding favour idea

One of the best-received wedding guests gifts we’ve seen is hand-written personalised cards to each guest. The bride and groom leave a tailor-made card at each person’s dinner seat. Even better, when the card has a photo of the guest and the couple on the other side

People get really excited when they see this surprise as they sit down for dinner and guests love reading each other’s cards.

  1. Eat dinner!

You’ll probably be pulled off during dinner for couples shots so ensure that you get plenty of food in the limited time. You don’t want to be hangry on your wedding day.

Wedding Photography & Videography Must-Dos

  1. Disposable cameras

If you’re distributing disposable cameras to guests to take photos – ensure the flash is always on (tape it up if possible) and test out the brand that you’re using ahead of time.

This Fujifilm 6-pack is a fan-favourite on TikTok.

You can’t go wrong with this 3-pack from Kodak.

This pretty, white 12-pack is perfect for fitting into your wedding aesthetic.

  1. Give disposable cameras to certain people or give instructions

To get optimal results from disposable camera photos, there are two options: Either leave cameras on dinner tables with a set of clear instructions beside them (like leaving flash on, types of photos to take etc).

Or assign cameras to certain people like bridesmaids and have them use up the film. Each bridesmaid can have a different brief like dancing photos, dinner photos, family shots etc. It’s also a surefire way to not lose the cameras.

  1. Choose your photo developer wisely

Wedding TikTok has taught us that you should get your disposable camera photos developed at a high-quality studio where they ensure to adjust exposure and contrast. You’ll end up with much better photos.

  1. Hire a wedding content creator

If hiring a videographer is out of budget but you still want plenty of BTS, organic content – think about hiring a wedding content creator. They’re not the same thing but more affordable.

A wedding content creator will take 1,000s of iPhone videos and photos and send them to you the very next morning. Another advantage is that all of the content they take will be vertical/portrait orientation which is perfect for sharing on social media

  1. A must-have photo on your wedding photography shot-list

A beautiful shot to not miss out on is your mother/family member helping the bride get dressed. That could include doing up the buttons at the back of her dress, helping her put her shoes on, or putting a necklace on.

  1. Know when golden hour is

Your photographer will definitely look into this, but it’s helpful to know yourself too. Find out when golden hour is on your wedding day so that you can factor that into your timeline.

It’s best to have a quick couples shoot during this time of the evening as the lighting will be beautiful. Don’t forget to search your wedding location and exact date of the year as golden hour changes throughout the seasons.

  1. No harsh direct light on your face during the ceremony

Ensure there’s no harsh spotlights or sunlight on your face during the ceremony. The photos will be better with shaded sunlight or softer indoor lighting. It’ll also mean you won’t be squinting in all of your ceremony photos. You can thank Wedding TikTok!

  1. Worried about clouds on your wedding day?

Everyone worries about rain or clouds on their wedding day but as a silver lining – many photographers actually dread sunny blue-sky days for shoots as the lighting is harsher.

  1. Use original captions on Instagram wedding photos

If you want some fun Instagram captions for your wedding photos, avoid the obvious and overdone “We did a thing”. Opt for “Don’t mind if I do” or simply “I do”. If you’re changing your last name, “Allow me to reintroduce myself” works. If you’re chronically online, “Entering my wife era” is fitting. Or a classic: “Forever and ever”

  1. Don’t hold poses

If you’re nervous about posing for the photoshoots, don’t worry! It’s actually better to be continuously moving to give the photographer plenty of options. Usually the best photos are candid and organic anyway.

  1. Ask photographers for a full gallery example

Before you sign the contract with your photographer, ask them for a full gallery example of a past client. This way you can see what an entire event looks like with them, and not just curated photos for Instagram.

Oftentimes photographers choose certain photos to post on Instagram or in their portfolio, but leave out others – to align with a certain aesthetic.

It might make you think, for example, that they don’t do family group photos but when they actually might do.

Wedding Party Ideas From Wedding TikTok

  1. Trick to get everyone dancing

A fun wedding TikTok tip to get everybody back on the dance-floor is have everyone use their phone torches for a song waving them around. It’s fun and an amazing photo opp.

  1. The best trick to get the party going

If the previous trick doesn’t work, this one will: Get the bride on the dancefloor – no one will leave her out there alone.

Wedding Dress Shopping Tips

  1. Take plenty of photos

Assign someone in your shopping group to take photos and videos of you trying on your dress. During the appointment, you’ll likely try on a handful of dresses and then need to narrow some down to retry on the top ones.

You’ll be surprised at how quickly you forget what the previous ones looked like – so have photos ready to remind yourself.

It’ll also be helpful to refer back to these photos later when making your final decision between dresses at different shops. Get photos and a video of you doing a 360. You’ll want to be reminded of how the dress looks at all angles.

  1. Don’t wear open toe shoes

We advise against wearing open-toe shoes with your wedding dress. When you’re walking or posing with your foot out – all you’ll see is toes poking out. It won’t be apparent that you’re wearing shoes and will potentially ruin the photos!

  1. Give yourself a limit of dresses to try on

When wedding dress shopping, think about giving yourself a maximum limit of dresses you’ll try on. There is an endless amount of dresses, brands and styles that you could try – and it’s tempting to keep going. But eventually you’ll get dress fatigue and will probably settle for something.

Plus, after you’ve tried on so many dresses, everything starts to blend and it becomes harder to make your decision.

  1. Stop looking at dresses after you’ve chosen yours

By the time you’ve bought your dress, it’s likely that your social media feeds are full of dresses. It’s time now though to stop looking – you don’t want regrets or to be inspired by a new style that you haven’t tried on. You loved that dress enough to buy it so close that chapter now.

Retrain your algorithm to show you different things now. We’ve brides on Wedding TikTok admit that they regret the dress they chose because they’ve since seen so many beautiful ones online!

Wedding Vendors Tips

  1. Vendors need meals

You might not know this when you first start planning your wedding but most vendors state it in their contracts that they require a staff meal during the wedding day.

Make sure you’re aware of this and you factor it into your budget and tell your caterers.

  1. Go to vendors with full list of questions

When you meet vendors like venue owners, caterers, florists – have a list of question prepared so you can be well-informed to make your decision. Grab our list of 50 questions to ask your wedding venue before booking.
